Celtics Draft Recap

Pick #14 – Aaron Nesmith SG (Vanderbilt)

The Celtics continue to add depth at the wing position, in adding arguably the best shooter in this years draft.  Nesmith shot a scorching 52% from behind the arc in 22 games for Vanderbilt before a foot injury ended his college career.  Nesmith was likely one of the few players available at the 14th pick that has the potential and skill set to have an immediate impact on the Celtics rotation.

Despite numerous rumors and efforts involving the Celtics packaging this pick to either move up in the draft or land a veteran impact player, they stood pat similar to past drafts and took a player very few expected.  Although the Celtics were quiet last night, that does not mean that they do not have any moves left to be made.  If Nesmith is able to make it to opening day in a Celtics uniform, he could provide a huge impact with his shooting off the bench

Pick #26 – Payton Pritchard

Despite a huge plea from Green Teamers for the Celtics to draft a big man, they went the other way and tried to sure up the backup point-guard position.  Despite missing on two second round point guards in last years draft, Ainge pulled the trigger on the light show Senior guard out of Oregon.

Pritchard will have plenty of backourt competition with NBA sophomores Carson Edwards and Tremont Waters both looking to bounce back from below expectation rookie seasons.  Pritchard average more than 20 points a game earning himself Pac-12 Player of The Year honors last season.
