The Patriots are dealing with a potential Covid outbreak.
Stephon Gilmore has become the 3rd New England Patriots player to test positive for COVID-19 joining Cam Newton and practice squad player Bill Murray.
The Patriots have cancelled Wednesday’s practice and all player interviews. Bill Belichick was scheduled to speak with reporters at 8:30 am but that has been pushed back.
Newton tested positive last week, prompting the NFL to move Week 4’s Patriots-Chiefs game from Sunday afternoon to Monday night. At the time of that game the Patriots had no additional positive tests. Gilmore’s 1st positive result came back on Tuesday.
To this point the Chiefs also have no positive tests and will practice today per NFL protocols with all players wearing PPEs.
Gilmore played 100% of the team’s defensive snaps during Monday’s game against Kansas City.
New England used two planes to fly the team to Kansas City, with approximately 20 players and team personnel in the secondary plane due to having close contact with Newton prior to his positive test. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported that Gilmore was among those in the second plane:
The Patriots cornerback was the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year last season. He’s a two-time All-Pro and a three-time Pro Bowler.
